Not sure it would be allowed 50% of the market share by your government, being an integrated package and all...

Wow, sounds like an issue...

Elaborate, please. What are you really trying to say...

No issue, really. I would think that would constitute a monopoly, something MS has had dealings with in the past. Not trying to rain on anybody's Microsoft parade, or convert them or anything. Can anyone provide any factual data or examples on why, exactly, a windows pc is more "flexible"? Are they talking about video games/future hardware upgrades? I have both systems in my household and for my purposes, I can't imagine what needs tweaking beyond having access to UNIX code..

PC's just work for me in a professional atmosphere. Like I said, I have used both extensively.

People can talk it up all they like, but a mac will never be able to replace a pc. There is SO much more flexibility in a PC and that is what is going to keep it in top dog status, no matter what the marketing/hype says.
and also ....

Microsoft's strong point is its Enterprise capabilities .....

and there's some irony in it from what I've seen in my work ... Apple has the stronger stand alone OS .... but Microsoft provides better Enterprise solutions on the whole.

Then again ... I miss the old Amigas.

A Mac is much more flexible than a PC because a Mac can run windows. Can a PC run OS X (without using a boatload of unreliable hacks)?

I don't know if Macs are 'better' for everyone but as I work professionally in post audio and video they are certainly better for me. In 9 years as a freelancer, I've never once been required to work on anything other than a Mac/Pro Tools rig or Final Cut Pro.

(If I was cutting movies I'd probably ahe to learn Avid but that's another thread altogether!)

Value

Just upgraded my TRS-80 to wireless, now I can surf the web from any room in the house.

How's that for freedom? Speed, processing power, good looks and reliability. (Next week I'm putting in an internal floppy drive.)

This MAC/PC thing ignores the obvious winner.

Apple's OS may come through just fine, but then again ...

I'm not verifying his credentials, or expecting you to find Jesus in that blog, I just though he cleared up some misconceptions regarding the old market share argument sold by haters & security software salesmen. An argument for what seems to be considered common knowledge amongst some friends in university computing science departments. Microsoft has had holes like Swiss cheese in the past. I think the security issue lies MORE in architecture & permissions. But feel free to educate me.

OK, here goes.

I own both, and use both. I like things about each, and dislike things about each.

I do appreciate the way the Mac deals with hardware and software installation, but it's been a while since I had a serious problem on a PC with that, too.

Honestly, I'm way more interested in how an application runs, than the OS it's on. At least in 2009.

Pick your software, and then pick the machine to run it on.

No argument from me on that point ....

I'm just saying the market share arguments are only theory at the moment ... if Apple's market share reaches critical mass a better OS may not be enough ... but then again it may be.

In the end the reality is that the better we get at defending our networks ... the better the bad guys get at finding ways into them .... for every defense they'll eventually find an offense that works .. the trick is staying ahead of them

IMHO the only truely secure computer is one that's been turned off and unplugged.

Need a new hard drive? Plug it in, that's it, zero wires to hook up.
Every Mac I've had has required a power cable and a data cable for the hard drive...just like every PC. It's obvious you've never installed a hard drive, and it sounds like you have no idea how Windows works, so why even bother posting????
